Mehdi Badaoui, 53, was sentenced to prison to a 240-month term, Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena announced.
The sentence was handed down by the Honorable Tanya O'Brien in Dakota County District Court. Badaoui entered a guilty plea on March 30, 2026, to one count of first-degree attempted murder. He will receive credit for 416 days already served in custody.
The incident happened on April 15, 2025, in which the defendant repeatedly stabbed his wife, causing life-threatening injuries. Further details regarding the circumstances of the case can be found in the previously issued media release.
“This was a brutal act of domestic violence that could have resulted in a loss of life," said County Attorney Keena. “Today's sentencing reflects our commitment to victims and holding offenders accountable."
Badaoui remains in custody at the Dakota County Jail awaiting transfer to the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
