Holly Nichole Flood, 46 of Lakeville, was charged* with two counts of theft by temporary control (aggregating) (over $5,000) in connection with the alleged misuse of funds from two booster clubs, announced Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena.
According to the complaint, on July 18, 2024, Lakeville police officers received a report about missing funds from two Lakeville booster clubs. The reporting party advised officers that Flood, who was the former treasurer of both organizations, may have used club funds for personal purposes. Flood served as treasurer of one of the clubs from April 2019 to March 2024 and of the other from February 2019 to June 2024.
During the investigation, Flood told officers she purchased things for the clubs using her personal finances and would then reimburse herself. Flood later admitted she got into financial trouble and took money from both clubs. She stated that she tried to repay the funds but soon the spending spiraled. Flood also admitted to using club funds to gamble as an effort to repay the money she took.
Officers obtained club financial records after executing a search warrant. Records revealed numerous ATM withdrawals at a casino, checks issued to Flood, online payments to people associated with Flood and payments for personal expenses like insurance premiums and utility bills. Officers obtained the gaming records from the casino where the ATM withdrawals took place and learned she lost approximately $41,000 between 2022 and 2023.
After the review of the financial documents, officers found from March 2021 to March 2024, $50,091.21 in personal spending from club 1 and $32,036.02 from club 2 between August 2022 and June 2024. Records also showed Flood made payments totaling $30,262.34 back to club 1.
Flood is scheduled to make sure first court appearance on Dec. 9 at 9 a.m. in Hastings.
County Attorney Keena thanked the Lakeville Police Department for the thorough investigation.
