__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
On Wednesday, January 8th at approximately 4:15 p.m., deputies were called to a two-vehicle crash at US Highway 61 and 190th Street East in Marshan Township.
An eastbound 2014 Hyundai Elantra, driven by a 38-year-old male with 29-year-old male passenger each from Burnsville, traveled through the stop sign on 190th Street East at US Highway 61. The Elantra was struck by a southbound, 2012 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 42-year-old woman from Cannon Falls, the lone occupant in the vehicle. The high-speed impact sent both vehicles into the ditch. Deputies and the Hastings Fire Department arrived and provided lifesaving efforts to the occupants of each vehicle. The driver of the Elantra was in critical condition. The passenger of the Elantra and driver of the Silverado sustained serious injuries. All victims were transported to the hospital. Deputies were notified shortly after that the 38-year-old driver of the Elantra had passed away.
This remains an open investigation and no further information will be released at this time. The Dakota County Sheriff's Office is assisting the Minnesota State Patrol in the investigation. We thank the Hastings Fire Department for their assistance providing aid and care on scene.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the victim's family and friends on their tragic loss.
