Dakota County is digging in on nearly $96 million in road improvements, pedestrian safety upgrades and park and natural resource protection projects this year across the county. The work totals $95.8 million worth of public infrastructure investments and environmental enhancements.
“People who live, work and raise a family in Dakota County expect safe, sound infrastructure and well-maintained resources," Dakota County Board Chair Joe Atkins said. “We're pleased to continue fulfilling those expectations."
Many projects are underway with this year's construction season. Other projects will start with utility work and site preparation ahead of construction in 2025.
Some of this year's $70.9 million in road projects include:
- Repaving county roads across Dakota County
- Cliff Road construction in Burnsville and Eagan
- Construction on 117th Street in Inver Grove Heights and Cedar Avenue in Apple Valley
- Dodd Boulevard reconstruction in Lakeville
- Intersection improvements in Eagan
- Roundabout construction at County Road 11 and Burnsville Parkway and on County Road 46 at County Road 85 in Vermillion and Nininger townships
In addition, design work is underway on more road improvement projects, including the County Road 50/Interstate 35 bridge and interchange in Lakeville.
More than $24.9 million in pedestrian safety, park, greenway and natural resource work this year includes:
- Extensions and connections along the Minnesota River, Mississippi River, River to River and Veterans Memorial greenways
- Natural area restoration at Thompson County Park, Spring Lake Park Reserve and Lake Byllesby Regional Park and along the Mississippi and River to River greenways
- Trail construction along Delaware Avenue in Mendota Heights and West St. Paul, near Two Rivers High School
The county is partnering with the cities of South St. Paul and West St. Paul on new greenway trailheads. The county is also working with the City of Hastings on the Vermillion River Greenway and the cities of Apple Valley, Lakeville and Farmington to develop the North Creek Greenway.
