A state pilot program offering same-day issuance of standard driver's licenses at Dakota County's Lakeville License Center will end Oct. 31, 2025.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety's Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS) division
recommended to the Legislature that the pilot program not be expanded. Differences in the quality and appearance of cards produced on the spot compared to those produced by the state-contracted vendor created issues for some customers.
Standard driver's licenses, identification cards and permits will still be issued at the Lakeville location, but they will be mailed rather than printed on the spot.
The Lakeville License Center operates from 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 10:30 a.m.–7 p.m. Wednesdays (excluding holidays).
