Dakota County's draft Solid Waste Management Plan is available for public review through Aug. 21. Residents, businesses and other organizations in Dakota County are encouraged to provide comments.
The plan will guide proper waste management within Dakota County for the next 20 years. It prioritizes waste prevention and increased recycling to make progress toward the goal of recycling 75 percent of waste generated in the county.
Strategies in the draft plan include ways to reduce waste to meet state requirements for all seven Twin Cities metropolitan counties, including to make curbside organics (food scraps) available in suburban areas by 2030.
Residents, businesses and organizations can email comments to wasteless@co.dakota.mn.us. Comments can also be mailed to the Dakota County Western Service Center (ATTN: Waste Less), 14955 Galaxie Ave., Apple Valley, MN 55124. Residents can comment in-person at the Dakota County Fair in the Natural Resources Building from 1–5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9 and Saturday, Aug. 10.
