The public is encouraged to help shape the vision for Dakota County Parks' next 25 years.
A draft plan of the Parks, Greenways and Natural Systems 2050 Vision Plan is available for review now through May 20. The public can also provide feedback at an open house from 5:30–7 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at Lebanon Hills Visitor Center, 860 Cliff Road, Eagan.
Over the past year, Dakota County Parks has been updating its long-range plans. That began last fall by asking the public to share ideas for what Dakota County's parks, greenways and natural systems will be like in 2050. That input helped shape the draft plan that's available for public review and feedback.
The plan frames future work and investment in Dakota County's parks, greenways, and natural systems for the next 25 years. The plan is designed to be visionary, aspirational and optimistic while also addressing current and anticipated challenges. The updated vision — “Nature Protected, Community Reflected, All Are Connected" — contains goals and strategies.
The plan prioritizes:
- Continued support and development of healthy natural spaces
- Public access to and a sense of belonging in nature-based settings
- A strong organization with appropriate funding to achieve the vision
