Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena announced today that Andrew Michael Fisher, 20 of Cambridge, and Tre Manuel Iglesias, 22 of St. Paul, were each charged* with one count of second-degree intentional murder and one count of second-degree unintentional murder (while committing a felony), in connection with a fatal shooting on Friday, Nov. 24, 2023, in South St. Paul, killing 26-year-old Avontae Troy King of South St. Paul.
On Friday, Nov. 24, 2023, at approximately 4:50 p.m. officers with the South St. Paul Police Department responded to a residential neighborhood in South St. Paul on a weapons call. They were advised that an individual was shot and bleeding. Responding officers located Avontae King lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the chest. Mr. King was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
“I'd like extend my condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Mr. King for their great loss," said Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena.
Keena also thanked the South St. Paul Police Department for their work which led to the apprehension of the suspects, as well the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office for their assistance in the investigation.
Both Fisher and Iglesias made their first appearance today — bail was set for Fisher in the amount of $1 million without conditions ($750,000 with conditions) and for Iglesias in the amount of $750,000 without conditions ($500,000 with conditions) by Judge Shawn Moynihan. The defendants next court appearance is set for Dec. 12, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. in Hastings.
