Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena announced that Troy Michael Mitteness, age 56 of Burnsville, has been charged* with one count of Murder in the Second Degree (Intentional) in connection with the fatal stabbing death and dismemberment of his 82-year-old mother, Sandra Viola Mitteness, in June of 2022.
A summary of the facts can be found in the criminal complaint at Criminal Complaint Search. If in custody, a picture of the suspect can be viewed at Inmate Search.
Keena commented: ““The facts alleged in this case make it one of the most horrific and disturbing cases I've experienced in the course of my 34-year career. I wish to thank the Burnsville Police Department for their doggedness into the investigation of the disappearance of Ms. Mitteness without which this case may have gone unsolved. My deepest sympathy is extended to the other family members and friends of Ms. Mitteness for their great loss."
