Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena announced that Philip Jedidiah Wong, age 25 of Little Canada, has been charged* with one count of Murder in the Second Degree (Without Intent While Committing a Felony) and one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree (While Committing a Gross Misdemeanor or Misdemeanor) in connection with the death of Jianqin Zhang, age 53, that took place on October 12, 2023, at a hotel in Eagan.

Keena commented: “My deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Jianqin Zhang for their great loss."
Keena thanked the Eagan Police Department for their work which led to the apprehension of the suspect, as well as the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office for their assistance in the investigation.
Wong made his first appearance today and bail was set in the amount of $750,000 with no conditions/$250,000 with conditions by Judge Tim Wermager. Wong's next court appearance is set for November 9, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. in Hastings.
