Dakota County is partnering with Certified Recycling to offer a special curbside pickup rate for county residents from Memorial Day to Labor Day for any type of mattress or box spring. Sets are not required.
The fee is $60 for the first item and $30 for each additional item, with no limit on quantity. The pickup fee is being waived. For more information and to schedule a curbside pick-up, call 952-894-1448 or go to the Certified Recycling website.
Instead of sending mattresses and box springs to a landfill, Certified Recycling disassembles them to recycle the metal, wood and cloth into new products. Quality, gently used mattresses and box springs will be separated and donated to Bridging, a nonprofit that provides furniture for people pursuing housing stability.
Mattress disposal is the most searched-for item on the county Recycling Guide directory. Dakota County understands that getting rid of large items like mattresses can be hard due to transportation and financial challenges. Since this partnership began in 2020, Certified Recycling has accepted 2,457 mattresses and box springs from residents and kept about 126,000 pounds of material out of the landfill.
