Dakota County will shine a light on its military veterans and the importance of veteran mental health during Green Light for Veterans Week Nov. 6–12.
The county will illuminate the exterior of its three service centers — Administration Center in Hastings, Northern Service Center in West St. Paul and Western Service Center in Apple Valley — in green lighting to symbolize hope, renewal and well-being and show support for the county's veteran community.
Also, Dakota County Library locations will display veterans' mental health materials. Public Health will share resources supporting veterans' well-being.
Dakota County is home to more than 25,000 veterans. The largest population served in the Vietnam War. The second-largest population served in the global war on terrorism.
Green Light for Veterans Week is a partnership of county governments, the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers and the National Association of Counties. It began in 2015 as a way to embrace returning veterans and highlight resources available to them.
Residents are encouraged to light their porches and front entrances green during the week.
