Dakota County Library will host two online programs in partnership with Mapping Prejudice on the history of racial covenants and how to locate them. Racial covenants were language included in property documents that restricted non-white residents from buying or owning land.
Mapping Prejudice, a University of Minnesota Libraries project, identifies and maps racial covenants in partnership with communities across Minnesota and the nation. It is identifying and mapping racial covenants in Dakota County. The project relies on volunteer help; opportunities are still available.
