County Road 86 (280th Street) from Garrett Avenue to Highway 3 (Chippendale Avenue) reconstruction project will continue this summer. The project will include the addition of 8-foot shoulders, turn and bypass lanes at public intersections and drainage improvements from County Road 23 (Galaxie Avenue) to Highway 3 (Chippendale Avenue). Within Castle Rock, the improved County Road 86 will have one travel lane in each direction, a continuous center turn lane, and curb and gutter with storm sewer.
The replacement of the existing trestle railroad bridge in Castle Rock is also included in the reconstruction project. The bridge replacement includes increasing the vertical clearance to state standards, a design without a center pier and increasing the opening width to improve sight lines and safety.

Access
County Road 86 is closed from Garrett Avenue to Chippendale Avenue (Highway 3). The detour will be Highway 3 south to County Road 96 (320th Street), west to County Road 23 (Foliage Avenue), then north backup to County Road 86. Traffic will be allowed to travel on 280th Street between Galaxie Avenue and Foliage Avenue during construction on a gravel surface.
Emergency closure opened
The emergency closure of 280th Street (County Road 86) between Galaxie Avenue and Foliage Avenue is now open.
Construction schedule
June 2–10
- Relocating private utilities work near bridge site.
- Grading the west end of the project and hauling in aggregates to form the new roadway.
- Installing box culverts.
- Installing the culverts under the roadway.
