Dakota County will resurface about 12 miles of trails. This involves grinding off a layer of asphalt and replacing it with new material. The end product will be a better looking, longer lasting and smoother trail.
The county will resurface more than trails. Work will also include parking lots and building entrances.
2025 trail projects
- County Road 8 (Wentworth Avenue) – trail on the north side between Livingston Avenue and Highway 3 (S. Robert Street), West St. Paul
- County Road 28 (Amana Trail) – trail on south side west of the Highway 3 (S. Robert Street) roundabout, Inver Grove Heights
- County Road 28 (Yankee Doodle Road) – trail on south side from Highway 149 (Dodd Road) to 77th Street W./Argenta Trail, Eagan and Inver Grove Heights
- County Road 31 (Pilot Knob Road) – extension of northbound left turn lane and drainage modifications at 140th Street W., Apple Valley
- County Road 31 (Pilot Knob Road) – trail segments on west side from County Road 42 to 134th Street W., Apple Valley
- County Road 31 (Pilot Knob Road) – trail on west side from 170th Street to County Road 46 (160th Street W.), Lakeville
- County Road 32 (Cliff Road) – segment of sidewalk repair along north side from Nicols Road to Interstate 35E, Eagan
- County Road 46 (160th Street W.) – trail along south side from County Road 23 (Cedar Avenue) to County Road 31 (Pilot Knob Road), Lakeville
- County Road 64 (195th Street W.) – median modifications at Eureka Avenue, Farmington
- County Road 70 (210th Street) – trail along south side from Keokuk Avenue to County Road 5 (Kenrick Avenue), Lakeville
- Mississippi River Greenway – crack sealing of trail at Lock and Dam No. 2, Hastings
- Big Rivers Regional Trail – trail from D Street to Highway 13 (Sibley Memorial Highway), Mendota
- Dakota County Western Service Center parking lot, Apple Valley
Project timeline
September–November 2025, turf establishment completed by June 2026
Drivers should expect temporary lane closures, flaggers, and delays throughout the projects. Please allow extra time for travel. Watch for construction signage and be cautious while driving through the construction areas. For the safety of both the residents and the workers, please be patient.
Property owners
Trail construction could impact sprinkler systems, fencing or landscaping within the road right of way. State law and
County Ordinance 126 Right of Way Management regulates what can go within the county highway right of way by permit.
Dakota County is not responsible for the removal or replacement of privately owned items in the right of way. Please have them removed or disconnected before the start of the project.
