County Projects 63-33 and 4-18
Dakota County and the cities of Mendota Heights and West St. Paul are developing plans to reconstruct Delaware Avenue (County Road 63). The project is from Marie Avenue to Dodd Road (Highway 149).
Plans also include adding a trail and sidewalk along Butler Avenue (County Road 4). This is from Delaware Avenue to Manomin Avenue.
The project includes:
- A full reconstruction of Delaware Avenue. It includes new curb and gutter, pavement, drainage, intersections, and utility improvements.
- New multi-use trail along Delaware Avenue.
- New multi-use trail and sidewalk along Butler Avenue.
This project is a priority due to:
- The age and condition of the roadway.
- The need for drainage, intersection and utility improvements.
- The lack of dedicated pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure.
The Butler Avenue part of the project was recommended in the 2021 Dakota County School Travel Safety Assessment. It will provide safe routes to walk and bike to and from St. Joseph's Catholic School, Heritage E-STEM Magnet School and other area destinations.
The public will help determine the location of new trail, sidewalk, and crossings along both roadways.
Field data collection is beginning soon. The project team has begun the design process. Throughout 2024 and 2025, we will continue designing and sharing updates with the community. Construction is scheduled for summer 2027.
