In 2024, Dakota County finished a 2.4-mile trail gap in the Mississippi River Greenway. It connected Pine Bend Bluffs to Spring Lake Park Reserve. The project used federal Rebuilding American Infrastructure Sustainably and Equitably (RAISE) Grant funds.
With completion, greenway users can travel from St. Paul to Hastings completely on shared-use trail. Using the same grant, Dakota County is designing more amenities. Installation will begin in 2026.
These amenities include:
- Landscaping along the greenway
- New rest areas with seating and scenic views of the Mississippi River
- Updated and improved wayfinding
- Interpretive exhibits
- Electric vehicle and e-bicycle charging stations at trailheads
The design team met with city partners in spring 2025. During summer 2025, they talked with community members along the trail and at community events.
Feedback from city partners and community members is now being used for designs. The project team looks to finish up in winter 2025-2026. Bidding is expected to occur in early 2026. Construction will occur through the spring and summer 2026.
