Buyer and seller requirements
Buyers must present the title certificate or Manufacturing Statement of Origin and a driver's license or state-issued identification card if transferring ownership or first-time registration.
Sellers must complete their section of the title or Manufacturing Statement of Origin labeled “By the Sellers." The section includes:
- Signature(s)
- Date of sale
- Odometer statement
- Damage disclosure statements
- Certified tax paid letter from the county (for mobile homes)
Minnesotans who are transferring ownership of motor vehicles and motorcycles will need to provide the following information:
- Name of insurance company
- Policy number
- Expiration date of the policy
- Motorcycle engine number
Fees
Fees vary for both title transfers and registration according to classification and year of the vehicle.
Payment options
Cash, check, money orders, and credit or debit cards (Discover, Visa or MasterCard) are accepted. A 2.15-percent convenience fee is charged for credit and debit cards on this DVS-related service.
