To register as a marriage officiant with Dakota County:

Complete an online form. A copy of your application will be sent to the email address provided in the application.
- Follow instructions below for registering it with Dakota County in person, by mail or by drop off.
You must be 21 years of age to perform a marriage in Minnesota.
People authorized to perform marriage ceremonies in Minnesota are required to ensure that the couple has obtained a Minnesota marriage license and the individuals they are marrying are the people named on the marriage license.

Payment options
Cash, check, money orders, and credit or debit cards (Discover, Visa or MasterCard) are accepted. A 2.49-percent convenience fee is charged for credit and debit cards.
Ministers must file credentials with application
According to Minnesota Statute 517.05, if the applicant is a minister of any denomination, they must file a copy of their credentials at the time of application. Applicants who are nondenominational don’t require credentials.

Registering in person
Service and license centers are open for walk-ins. However, making an appointment is encouraged. A proof of age will be required.

Registering by drop off
You can drop off a notarized copy of your application, a copy of credentials (if applicable), a copy of proof of age and fees at one of three drop-off boxes. Boxes are located at the Administration Center, Northern Service Center and Western Service Center.

Registering by mail
You can still receive your marriage officiant registration by mail.
