Dakota County is constructing 2.2 miles of the North Creek Greenway between 173rd Street in Lakeville and 189th Street in Farmington. The project will construct 1 mile of new trail in Lakeville and reconstruct 1.2 miles of existing trail in Farmington.
The finished greenway segment will consist of a 10-foot-wide paved trail. Other amenities include:
- Two new trail bridge crossings of North Creek
- Safety and accessibility improvements of the trail crossing at 173rd Street
- Connections to local trails and sidewalks
- Seating
- Interpretive signage
- Other features consistent with Dakota County Greenway standards
Project timeline
October 2023–January 2024: Site access preparation, bridge structure pile driving and pier construction.
February–April 2024: Bridge structure placement, bridge deck construction.
April–July 2024: Trail removals, grading and paving.
July–August 2024: Trail node construction and site restoration.
Spring 2025: Final site restoration.
Summer 2025–summer 2027: Landscaping installation and maintenance work

- Restoring topsoil and turf restoration along the Duluth Street trail entrance
- Installing recycling bins
- Staking and preparing for landscaping work
- Installing of trees, shrubs, perennials and mulch
