Dakota County will resurface about 12 miles of trails. This involves grinding off a layer of asphalt and replacing it with new material. The end product will be a better looking, longer lasting and smoother trail.
The county will resurface more than trails. Work will also include parking lots and building entrances.

- Aspen House parking lot, Mendota Heights
- County Road 28 (Yankee Doodle Road) – trail on the north side between Highway 149 (Dodd Boulevard) and 77th Street W., Eagan and Inver Grove Heights
- County Road 31 (Pilot Knob Road) – trail on the east side from County Road 42 (150th Street West to County Road 33 (Diamond Path Road), Apple Valley
- County Road 31 (Pilot Knob Road) – trail on the west side from 190th Street to 170th Street, Lakeville and Farmington
- County Road 32 (Cliff Road) – trail on the north side from Johnny Cake Ridge Road to County Road 31 (Pilot Knob), Eagan
- County Road 43 (Lexington Avenue) – trail on the north side from 200 feet south of Keefe Street and Kenneth Street, Eagan
- County Road 46 (160th Street W.) – trail on the side from County Road 23 (Cedar Avenue) to County Road 31 (Pilot Knob), Lakeville
- Fahey Trailhead in Spring Lake Park, Nininger Township
- Inver Glen Library entrance, Inver Grove Heights
- Mississippi Greenway Trail – from 65th Street E. in Inver Grove Heights to Richmond Street E. in South St Paul
- Mississippi Greenway Trail –from 950 feet south of Bryant Avenue to intersection with River to River Greenway Trail in South St. Paul
- Schaar's Bluff Trailhead entrance and parking lots, Nininger Township
- West Trailhead parking for the Big Rivers Regional Trail, Mendota Heights
Project timeline
September–November 2024, turf establishment completed by June 2025
Drivers should expect temporary lane closures, flaggers, and delays throughout the project. Please allow extra time for travel. Watch for construction signage and be cautious while driving through the construction areas. For the safety of both the residents and the workers, please be patient.
Property owners
Trail construction could impact sprinkler systems, fencing or landscaping within the road right of way. State law and
County Ordinance 126 Right of Way Management regulates what can go within the county highway right of way by permit.
Dakota County is not responsible for the removal or replacement of privately owned items in the right of way. Please have them removed or disconnected before the start of the project.
