County Project 42-172
Dakota County and the City of Apple Valley are planning to resurface 3.5 miles of pavement on County Road 42. The project starts at 147th Street and ends at Diamond Path (County Road 33). The road has severe cracking, failing curb, drainage concerns and non-compliant pedestrian facilities. The traffic signals at Pilot Knob Road and Garret Avenue are also ready for replacement.
The project will remove the top layer of pavement and replace it with a new layer. This type of resurfacing project allows for other improvements. Pedestrian improvements to current standards, signal replacements, and transit improvements are included with this project.
The improvements will include new roadway surface, striping and pavement markings. Intersections will have new curb ramps, audible push buttons for crossing the road and pedestrian countdown timers. The signal systems at Pilot Knob Road and Garret Avenue will be replaced, to improve safety and flow of the intersections. The completed project will improve the ride, mobility and compliance to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
