County Project 54-011
Dakota County is planning reconstruction of a 7-mile segment of County Road 54. The project area is from 18th Street in Hastings to County Road 68.
The existing highway is narrow and has a documented crash history. The planning study will explore safety improvements along the road and at existing intersections. This includes a roundabout at the County Road 54/County Road 68 intersection.
The county and its project partners are also considering a multi-use trail along Highway 54. This would extend the Mississippi River Greenway trail system to Prairie Island. A future connection to Red Wing is also a possibility. The planning and preliminary design phase will extend to March 2025.
County Road 54 provides critical social, recreational, and economic connections from Hastings to the Prairie Island Indian Community.
