Dakota County has partnered with local utilities to save energy and money at intersections with traffic signal controls. Traffic signals throughout the county have been changed from incandescent light bulbs to energy-efficient LED bulbs. The bulb changing initiative has resulted in:
- Saving over 700,000 kWh annually
- Reducing traffic signal energy costs by $50,000 annually
- Providing longer life and brighter lights at intersections
- Requiring less maintenance and lane closures
LED traffic signals are the standard for all new County intersections requiring signal control and for traffic signal reconstructions. The LED traffic lights use 90 percent less energy than incandescent models.
