Dakota County anticipates building a new regional household hazardous waste and recycling drop-off facility in Lakeville. The Recycling Zone Plus will be a partnership with Scott County to provide additional services to residents in both counties.
Dakota County is in the process of purchasing property and working with the City of Lakeville on building requirements and permitting. The facility is projected to open in 2025. The Recycling Zone Plus will collect similar materials as the existing
Recycling Zone in Eagan.
Dakota County's
Recycling Zone in Eagan has been in operation for more than 20 years. Residents drop off paints, pesticides, automotive chemicals, household cleaners, fluorescent light bulbs, batteries and small electronics for proper management and disposal.
Facility staff sort, pack and store materials on-site until they are shipped to disposal or recycling facilities. The Recycling Zone has reached capacity, with resident participation increasing 33 percent in the last 10 years. The existing Recycling Zone will remain open after the proposed new facility opens.
