Dakota County purchased land at 10125 217th St. W. in Lakeville to build a new regional household hazardous waste and recycling drop-off facility. The new facility, called Recycling Zone Plus, is a partnership with Scott County. It will provide more convenient services to residents in both counties.
The Recycling Zone Plus will collect similar materials as the existing Recycling Zone in Eagan. It will be about twice the size to accommodate future population growth.
Construction will start on the new facility in spring 2026 and will be open to the public in 2027. The project is being covered by state funding, Dakota County landfill fees and Scott County funds.
The Recycling Zone has been operating for more than 20 years. Once residents drop off items, facility staff sort, pack and store materials on-site until they are shipped to disposal or recycling facilities. Resident participation increased 33 percent in the last 10 years. The Recycling Zone in Eagan will stay open after the Recycling Zone Plus opens.
Construction updates will be posted to this webpage.
