The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, Attorney’s Office and Environmental Resources, along with our law enforcement partners, have teamed together to offer the residents a place to safely and anonymously dispose of prescription drugs.
Drop-off is safe and anonymous. No ID is required and no questions will be asked.
Drop-off locations
These drop-off locations are open 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
- Eagan Police Station, 3830 Pilot Knob Road
- Farmington Police Station, 19500 Municipal Drive
- Lakeville Police Station, 9327 183rd St. W.
- Rosemount Police Station, 14041 Biscayne Ave (opens at 8 a.m.)
- South St. Paul Police Station, 125 Third Ave. N.
These drop-off locations are open 24/7
- Dakota County Law Enforcement Center, 1580 Highway 55, Hastings
- Inver Grove Heights Police Station, 8150 Barbara Ave.
- Mendota Heights Police Station, 1101 Victoria Curve
- West St. Paul Police Station, 1616 Humboldt Ave.
Drop-off instructions
- Keep medicines and EpiPens in their original container.
- Put loose pills or liquids in a sealed container or plastic bag.
- Bring to any drop box.
- Pull the door open, drop your meds, and close it. Your medications cannot be retrieved afterwards.
Medicines only accepted from households
Medicines from households are accepted in any form. This includes prescription, over-the-counter and pet medications.
Bring these items to the Recycling Zone
These items aren't accepted at medication drop-off locations. Take them to the Recycling Zone for free and safe disposal.
- Home sharps (needles, syringes and lancets) — Place sharps into a rigid container such as plastic laundry detergent bottle with the lid taped shut and label the container "Do not recycle: household sharps."
- Thermometers
- E-cigarettes and vaping devices (nicotine only)
Not accepted
- Empty prescription bottles . Search for disposal options on the Recycling Guide.
Medicines from businesses, including health care facilities, long-term care facilities, pharmacies, doctors' offices and veterinary clinics can be accepted.
