Family Dependency Treatment Court is a voluntary court process. It is for families with children removed from their care in child protection court due to substance abuse by a parent. Parents enrolled in the program have an addiction involving stimulants (meth or cocaine) or opiates (heroin or fentanyl).
The program protects the safety of children. It supports their well-being while giving parents the tools to become clean and sober. This helps provide a safe and stable home for their children.
Participants receive support to help them with:
- Ongoing sobriety and long-term sober supports
- Mental health
- Stable housing
- Reliable transportation
- Employment
Program team
The program team includes:
- A judge
- Assistant Dakota County Attorney
- Two parent attorneys
- Two advocates for the child (Guardian ad Litems)
- A coordinator
- Three treatment court social workers
- A recovery specialist
- Contracted chemical dependency treatment provider from the community
