There are a range of housing options available to the aging and disabled:
Assisted living apartment buildings
Private apartments with housekeeping and meal options. Additional services are available, including personal care and nursing services. Boarding care or board and lodging
Boarding care facilities provide a room, meals and services. Services include 24-hour supervision, personal care, medication assistance and other services.Adult foster homes
Provided by persons who also live in the home or by around-the-clock staff. They offer a variety of personal care and health-related services. Campus-style communities
Provides a range of housing, services, and nursing care to meet changing needs of residents. Usually these communities offer housing options based on your need, which can range from independent apartment living to assisted living to full 24 hour nursing care.Independent living options
Apartments, cooperatives and condominiums typically do not offer services, but may offer meals in a common dining room.
The Dakota County Community Development Agency’s
Senior Housing Program provides affordable one- and two-bedroom apartments to seniors age 62 and older. There are currently 29 buildings located throughout Dakota County.
The CDA has Nicols Pointe in Eagan for seniors age 55 and older with a preference for veterans. They have two general occupany apartment buildings in West St. Paul — Colleen Loney Manor and Gateway Place.
Skilled nursing facility
Long-term care facilities that offer nursing care to residents. Provides services such as nursing, personal, dietary, therapeutic, social, spiritual and recreational.
