Solid waste facilities must have a license from Dakota County to operate.

Get, modify or renew a license
To get a license application for a new solid waste facility, call the Environmental Management Department at 952-891-7557. To renew or modify an existing license, the facility owner or operator must submit a 
Solid Waste License Application with supporting documentation, such as proof of insurance and financial assurance, to the Environmental Management Department. Annual license fees apply.
- Licenses are approved by the Dakota County Board of Commissioners.
- An application review fee is required and will depend on the type and size of the facility.
- Licenses will not be granted by the County Board unless approved by the city or township where the facility will be located.
