Asthma is a disease that causes the airways of the lungs to tighten and swell. Asthma makes breathing difficult and can cause wheezing, coughing, or tightness in the chest. Asthma can be a very serious disease, but with proper management a person with asthma can live a healthy and active life.
Free asthma consultations for low-income children
Public Health offers a free program for children ages 0-17 diagnosed with asthma who live in the county.
A public health nurse can visit and work with the family on ways to reduce the child’s symptoms. The nurse can help the family learn about asthma, discuss community resources available to decrease exposure to triggers in the home, and assist in developing an asthma action plan.
